Trimbakeshwar is 249 km from Pune, about five hours through Nashik. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the source of the Godavari, and the only place in India where Narayan Nagbali puja is performed.
That last point changes how most people book this route, so it comes first.
If you are coming for Narayan Nagbali, Kaal Sarp Shanti or Tripindi Shraddha, you are not making a day trip. These pujas run over three days and cannot be shortened.
What to sort out before you book a cab:
Tell us at booking that it is for Nagbali. Our drivers on this route know the town and where to drop for the puja area, which saves you a confused twenty minutes on arrival.
If you are only coming for Jyotirlinga darshan, this works as a two-day trip rather than one. Five hours each way is ten hours of driving, and doing that plus a darshan queue in a single day is punishing.
The comfortable version:
Nashik is 28 km away and has far better hotels than Trimbak, which is why most people stay there.
Pune → Chakan → Sangamner → Nashik → Trimbakeshwar on NH-60.
Leave before 7 AM to clear the Chakan industrial stretch, which is worth 30 to 40 minutes on a weekday.
Temple timings and puja arrangements change from time to time. Check the current schedule if you are planning the day around a specific ritual.
Nagbali brings whole families together, so tempo travellers are common on this route. Book early on auspicious dates.
Trimbakeshwar is one of Maharashtra's five Jyotirlingas:
Combining is considerably cheaper per temple than separate trips, and you keep the same car and driver throughout.
October to March is the most comfortable. Shravan Mondays and Mahashivratri are the most significant and by far the most crowded — the town fills completely and darshan queues run for hours.
For Nagbali, the dates are set by the panchang rather than the season, so book whenever your priest advises and plan around the crowd.

About five hours for 249 km. Pune to Nashik is roughly four hours on NH-60, and Nashik to Trimbakeshwar another 45 minutes. Leave before 7 AM to clear the Chakan traffic.
Three days, and it cannot be shortened. Book your priest first since the puja must start on specific tithis, then arrange accommodation in Trimbak, then book the cab.
A drop, then book a separate return. Keeping a car parked for three days costs more than two one-way bookings, and you will not need it during the puja.
It is possible but hard — five hours each way plus a darshan queue makes for a very long day. Two days with a night at Nashik is far more comfortable, and lets you take early morning darshan when the temple is quiet.
Nashik, 28 km away, has far better hotels. Trimbak is a small town that fills completely on auspicious dates, though staying there suits a Nagbali booking.
