The border crossing at Kognoli adds a short stop for paperwork. It is routine and takes minutes.
Pune → Satara → Karad → Kolhapur → Nipani → Belgaum on NH-48.
This is one of the easiest long drives from Pune. The road quality means the six hours pass more comfortably than a shorter trip on a state highway would.
Kolhapur at the 235 km mark is the natural lunch halt, and worth an hour for Mahalaxmi darshan if you have the time.
Belgaum sits on the Pune-Goa route, about 130 km before you reach the coast. If Goa is your destination, book that directly rather than in two legs — it works out cheaper and the driver plans the day as one journey.

April and May are hot on the Maharashtra stretch, though Belgaum itself sits at altitude and stays cooler than the plains.
