Most people booking a Pune to Shirdi cab have one thing in mind — reaching in time for morning darshan, before the queue becomes a three-hour affair. Kad Cabs plans this trip around that, not around a departure time picked at random. Fixed fare, experienced driver, and a start time worked backwards from when you want to be in the queue.

Distance, route and travel time

Pune to Shirdi is about 186 km and takes roughly 4 hours. There are two routes and we use whichever suits the day:

• Via Ahmednagar — Pune → Shirur → Ahmednagar → Rahata → Shirdi. Shorter and the one we take most often.
• Via Sangamner — Pune → Chakan → Narayangaon → Sangamner → Shirdi. Slightly longer at around 210 km but sometimes quicker in the mornings.

Planning your darshan

This is the part most travellers get wrong, so here are working numbers.

• Kakad Aarti is at around 4:30 AM. To attend it you need to leave Pune by midnight.
• For a calm morning darshan, leave Pune by 3 AM and you are in the queue by 7.
• Leaving at 6 AM gets you there around 10, by which time the wait is usually two hours or more.
• Thursdays are the busiest day of the week by a wide margin. So are Ram Navami, Guru Purnima and Vijayadashami.
• Same-day return is comfortable if you start early — most of our travellers are back in Pune by evening.

Tell us when you want to be in the queue and we will set the pickup time. That is a more useful conversation than picking a departure hour and hoping.

One way or round trip?

If you are staying overnight in Shirdi, a one-way drop is cheaper — you pay for a single leg and book a fresh cab when you return. For a same-day darshan trip, take a round trip: the car waits, you keep the same driver, and you are not negotiating outside the temple at 2 PM with a tired family.

Combining with other temples

Shani Shingnapur is about 70 km from Shirdi and almost everyone adds it — usually Shingnapur in the morning and Shirdi in the afternoon, or the reverse with an overnight stay. Choosing your vehicle

Two to four passengers travel comfortably in a Swift Dzire or Etios. Families of five or six should take an Ertiga or Innova Crysta — after a night departure and a long queue, the extra room matters on the drive back. Groups of nine or more, and most bhajan mandals, book a Tempo Traveller.

Practical notes for Shirdi

• Mobile phones, cameras and bags are not permitted inside the temple — leave them in the car
• Free darshan queues move steadily; paid passes are available at the Sansthan counter
• Prasadalaya serves meals through the day at a nominal charge
• Dwarkamai, Chavadi and Lendi Baug are all a short walk from the main temple
• Carry a government photo ID
• Parking is at a distance from the temple; the driver will drop you at the nearest permitted point

Halts on the way

Ahmednagar is the natural break on the shorter route, roughly halfway, with reliable food and clean washrooms. On the Sangamner route, Narayangaon and Sangamner both work. Most drivers make one halt; tell us if you want more, especially with elderly travellers.
