Pune to Bhimashankar cab service

Bhimashankar is the closest Jyotirlinga to Pune — 124 km, about three and a half hours. The other four in Maharashtra are 250 km or more away, which makes this the one you can do properly in a single day.

A one-way drop starts at ₹3,191, though for darshan a round trip is almost always the right booking.

Same-Day Darshan and Return

The usual timeline, and it works comfortably:

• 5:00 AM — pickup from your Pune address
• 8:30 AM — reach Bhimashankar
• 9:00 to 11:30 — darshan, the temple complex, and a walk around
• 12:30 PM — leave
• 4:00 PM — back in Pune

Early start matters here. Mondays during Shravan and Mahashivratri bring very large crowds, and the last stretch of road can back up with parked vehicles.

Book a Round Trip, Not a Drop

There is almost no reason to book a one-way drop to Bhimashankar. It sits inside a wildlife sanctuary with a small village around the temple, and getting back to Pune without your own vehicle is genuinely difficult — the last buses go early and there is nothing reliable after that.

A round trip means the driver waits during darshan and brings you home. It also costs less than two separate one-way bookings.

A drop only makes sense if you are staying overnight or continuing to Nashik.

Why 124 km Costs ₹3,191

Fair question, since that works out to roughly ₹26 per kilometre.

The reason is the ghat road. The last 30 km climbs through narrow hairpins into the Sahyadris, and it is slow, hard on the vehicle and demands an experienced driver. On a drop, the car also returns 124 km empty from a place where it will not find a return fare.

Short hill routes carry a minimum fare rather than a straight per-kilometre rate for exactly this reason.

Route and Travel Time

Pune → Chakan → Rajgurunagar → Manchar → Ghodegaon → Bhimashankar

• Road — good highway to Manchar, then a ghat climb for the last 30 km

The Manchar route is the one our drivers take. There is an alternative via Khed and Wada which is narrower and slower — worth avoiding unless there is a specific reason.

Leaving before 7 AM helps you clear the Chakan industrial stretch, which is worth 30 minutes on a weekday.

The Ghat Road

The last 30 km is a proper hill road — narrow, winding, with limited passing places. In monsoon it gets slippery and visibility can drop within minutes.

Our drivers on this route have done it before, which matters more here than on a highway run. If you are travelling in monsoon, an SUV is worth the difference for the ground clearance alone.

Large tempo travellers can manage the road but move slowly. For a group, tell us at booking so we send a driver used to the climb.

At the Temple

• Steps down to the temple — the shrine sits below the approach, so there is a descent and a climb back. Not difficult, but worth knowing if knees are a concern.
• Mondays are busiest, and Shravan Mondays and Mahashivratri bring very large crowds
• Dress conservatively; footwear is left outside
• Parking is some distance from the temple on busy days, which adds a walk
• Local shops sell prasad and puja items near the entrance

The Wildlife Sanctuary

Bhimashankar is not only a temple. It sits inside a wildlife sanctuary that is the last major habitat of the Shekru — the Indian giant squirrel, and Maharashtra's state animal.

You can genuinely spot one in the trees around the temple, particularly early in the morning. There are short trails through the forest, and the area is rich in birdlife. Even if you came only for darshan, the walk is worth twenty minutes.

Monsoon and just after is when the forest is at its best.

Best Time to Go

• October to February — the most comfortable driving and clear views from the ghat
• Monsoon — the forest is spectacular and the ghat needs real care. Go with a driver who knows it.
• Shravan and Mahashivratri — the most auspicious and by far the most crowded. Start at 4 AM if you are going then.
