Pune to Bangalore by road is 840 km and around thirteen hours. It is a serious drive, and we are honest with everyone who calls about it — for most travellers a flight makes more sense. Where road travel wins is when you are relocating with belongings, travelling with pets, moving a family with too much luggage for a flight, or want to stop along the way.
Pune to Bangalore is about 840 km and takes 13 to 14 hours on NH-48 via Satara, Kolhapur, Belgaum, Hubli, Davangere and Tumkur. The highway is good throughout and largely four to six lane. Most travellers leave Pune between 4 and 5 AM and reach Bangalore by evening.
Thirteen hours in a day is legal and we do run it, with two drivers on request. But for anyone travelling with children or elderly parents, we suggest breaking the journey overnight at Hubli or Davangere. It costs a little more and makes an enormous difference to how everyone arrives.
Crossing into Karnataka requires a state permit for commercial vehicles. We arrange it and charge it at actual cost, shown separately on your bill.
Satara for breakfast, Kolhapur or Belgaum for a longer break, Hubli or Davangere for lunch, and Tumkur before the final stretch. The highway is well served with clean food stops throughout.
For a drive this long, take the Innova Crysta. We say this plainly rather than leaving it to you to discover after six hours — the suspension, the third row and the cabin noise are in a different class, and on 840 km it is not a marginal difference. Groups should book the Force Urbania.
