Pandharpur is 210 km from Pune, about four hours, and it is where Maharashtra goes. The Vitthal Rukmini temple on the Chandrabhaga draws more devotees over a year than almost anywhere else in the state.

A one-way drop starts at ₹4,150, with fuel and driver included.

Ashadhi Ekadashi: Book Weeks Ahead

If you are travelling for Ashadhi Ekadashi, everything about this trip changes.

Lakhs of warkaris walk to Pandharpur for it, arriving over several days. Roads on the route are partly closed to traffic, diversions are in force, and the town itself is completely full. A four-hour drive can become eight.

What this means practically:

  • Book your cab three to four weeks ahead. Cars go early and rates rise across the market.
  • Accommodation needs booking earlier still, or plan to travel back the same night
  • Expect diversions — the direct route may not be open, and the driver will take whatever is
  • Leave far earlier than you think. There is no way to make up time once you are behind the palkhi traffic.

Kartiki Ekadashi in November is the second-largest and follows the same pattern. Every Ekadashi through the year is busier than an ordinary day.

An Ordinary Day Is a Different Trip

Outside the Ekadashi periods, Pandharpur is a straightforward four-hour drive and darshan is quick. A same-day return works comfortably:

  • 5:00 AM — pickup from Pune
  • 9:00 AM — reach Pandharpur
  • 9:30 to 11:30 — darshan, Chandrabhaga ghat, and the temple complex
  • 12:30 PM — leave
  • 4:30 PM — back in Pune

Route and Travel Time

Pune → Baramati → Indapur → Pandharpur

  • Distance — 210 km
  • Time — about four hours
  • Road — reasonable state highway; not as fast as NH-48 but straightforward

The alternative via Solapur is longer and only worth taking if you are stopping there. See Pune to Solapur.

Baramati sits on this route and makes a natural break.

At the Temple

  • Padsparsh darshan — touching the feet of the deity — has its own queue and takes considerably longer than the general darshan
  • Chandrabhaga ghat — devotees bathe here before darshan. The riverfront is worth the walk regardless.
  • Rukmini temple is adjacent and part of the same visit
  • Ekadashi days are the busiest, every month, not just Ashadhi
  • Dress conservatively; footwear is left outside
  • Parking is some distance away on busy days

Temple arrangements and darshan queues change during festival periods. Check the current position if you are planning around a specific time.

Which Car to Book

Pandharpur trips are usually joint family or community group affairs. A tempo traveller costs less per head than three cars and keeps everyone together in the darshan queue.

One Way or Round Trip

For darshan, book a round trip. The driver waits during your temple visit and brings you home, which costs less than two one-way bookings and matters more here — Pandharpur has limited return transport outside festival season.

A one-way drop suits an overnight stay or continuing to Solapur. See one way taxi in Pune.

Nearby

  • Solapur — 75 km, and Siddheshwar Temple
  • Akkalkot — 110 km, Swami Samarth's samadhi, often combined with Pandharpur
  • Tuljapur — 130 km, Tulja Bhavani, one of the Shakti Peethas
  • Gangapur — a Datta shrine, further east
  • Baramati — on the way

Pandharpur, Akkalkot and Tuljapur together make a comfortable two-day circuit, and it is one of our more common multi-day bookings.

What Is Included

  • Car, driver and fuel
  • 210 km included on a one-way drop
  • Driver details by SMS before pickup
  • Drinking water
  • GST invoice on request

Toll and parking are not included. They are charged at actual cost and shown separately on your bill.
