Lonavala is 70 km from Pune, about ninety minutes on the expressway. That closeness is exactly why most people get the booking wrong.
A one-way drop is right if you are staying overnight. But if you are going for the day — Bhushi Dam, Tiger's Leap, Lion's Point, lunch, and back — a full-day booking with the car waiting works out better, because Lonavala's sights are spread across 20 km and there is no reliable transport between them.
The right choice for sightseeing. The driver takes you between Bhushi Dam, Tiger's Leap, Karla and Bhaja caves, Lion's Point and Rajmachi, waits while you stop, and brings you home. Your bags stay in the car. No auto haggling at every point.
This is what most Lonavala bookings should be, and it is what we recommend when people call.
Right if you are staying at a resort, going for a wedding, or being picked up at the other end. You pay for one direction only.

On a one-way drop the driver travels 70 km with you and then 140 km empty — back to Pune with no passenger. You are effectively paying for a 210 km round trip, which is why short routes have a minimum fare rather than a straight per-kilometre rate.
If that seems steep for the distance, a day trip is better value: for a little more you keep the car all day and it takes you to every stop instead of one drop and goodbye.
Weekend mornings are heavy. Leaving Pune between 6 and 8 AM makes a real difference — after 9 on a Saturday the expressway backs up and you lose an hour.
June to September is when Lonavala is at its best and its most difficult. The hills turn green, waterfalls appear everywhere, and the ghat sections get slippery with poor visibility.

For a day trip with hill stops, an SUV is worth the difference. The roads to Lion's Point and Rajmachi are not smooth.
