Pune to Shani Shingnapur cab service

Shani Shingnapur is the village where houses have no doors. Not broken doors, or doors left open — no door frames at all, and no locks on the shops or the bank. The belief is that Shani himself guards the village, and residents have lived by it for generations.

It is 160 km from Pune, about three and a half hours, and a one-way drop starts at ₹2,720.

Same-Day Darshan and Return

Most people do this trip in a day, and it works comfortably:

• 5:00 AM — pickup from your Pune address
• 8:30 AM — reach Shani Shingnapur
• 9:00 to 11:00 — darshan, the oil offering, and a walk through the village
• 12:00 PM — leave
• 4:00 PM — back in Pune

An early start matters here more than on most routes, because of what Saturdays do to the queue.

Saturday Is a Different Trip

Saturday is Shani's day, and the difference in crowd is not small. On an ordinary weekday you walk up and take darshan. On a Saturday, particularly a Shani Amavasya, the village fills completely and the queue runs for hours.

If your visit has to be on a Saturday, leave Pune by 4 AM and expect the whole day to go. If the day does not matter to you, a weekday visit is a far calmer experience.

Combining with Shirdi

Shirdi is 85 km from Shani Shingnapur, and a large share of our bookings on this route do both. Two ways people arrange it:

• One long day — Shani Shingnapur in the morning, Shirdi in the afternoon, back in Pune late. Doable, but it is a fourteen-hour day.
• Two days — stay overnight at Shirdi, do darshan there at dawn, drive back the next afternoon. Considerably more comfortable, and what we usually suggest.

Route and Travel Time

Pune → Shirur → Ahmednagar → Shani Shingnapur on NH-60.

• Distance — around 160 km
• Time — about 3.5 hours
• Road — good highway; the slow stretch is out of Pune through Wagholi and Shikrapur

The temple is around 35 km past Ahmednagar. If you are also stopping at Ahmednagar, it fits naturally on the way.

What to Expect at the Temple

• The deity is a black stone slab standing in the open, with no roof and no walls over it
• Oil offering — the main ritual. Oil is available at the temple; you do not need to bring it.
• The village — walk through it. Houses genuinely have no doors, and it is worth seeing rather than just reading about.
• Specific rituals have their own customs and dress requirements. Ask at the temple office when you arrive rather than assuming.
• Dress conservatively, and be prepared to leave footwear well outside

The temple stays open through the day. Early morning is quietest.

Which Car to Book

• Wagon R — two or three people, ₹2,720
• Swift Dzire or Aura — four passengers, ₹2,790. The usual choice.
• Ertiga or Rumion — six passengers, ₹3,410
• Innova Crysta — ₹5,440. Worth it with elderly parents, since a same-day return means seven hours in the car.
• Tempo Traveller — 12 seater ₹8,480, 17 seater ₹8,800. Group and family yatras.

Family groups doing this as a joint trip are common here. A tempo traveller costs less per head than three cars and keeps everyone together for darshan.

One Way or Round Trip

For a same-day darshan trip, book a round trip. The driver waits while you are at the temple, and it costs less than two separate one-way fares.

Best Time to Go

October to March is the most comfortable. April and May are hot, and standing in an open-air temple queue in that heat is difficult, particularly for elderly travellers.

For the quietest darshan: a weekday morning, outside festival periods. For the most significant: Saturday, and accept the crowd.
